If you were to trace Matt Dylan’s roots back to rural North Carolina, you would find the definition of “grew up country.” Born and raised on a large farm, evening and weekends were spent in the fields, cutting wood, feeding the chickens and helping tend to the farm. A lot of folks claim they are country but Matt Dylan IS.
Dylan, the son of a factory worker and whose mother worked in a school cafeteria, knew early on who and what he wanted to be. Embracing a guitar at the age of 8, he endeavored to learn the instrument and started writing elementary songs. Inspired by the likes of Elvis, Roy Orbison, Waylon, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, Dylan’s journey began.
Matt’s journey has led to some pretty impressive highlights, but still finds him hungry to accomplish more. To date Matt has had the opportunity to open / tour with artists such as: Rascal Flatts, Montgomery Gentry, Aaron Tippin, Pat Green, Walt Wilkins, Jamey Johnson, Rockie Lynne, Billy Joe Royal, Delbert McClinton, The Lost Trailers, Shooter Jennings, Trace Adkins, and many others.
Dylan’s high energy shows and following led him to being signed by a major indie label in early 2004. Matt’s first single “Let’s Get It On,” was released in September of that year and charted on several Indie Charts, landing as high as number two. It also landed at 42 with a bullet on the New Music Weekly Chart. “Let’s Get It On,” was also featured on Radio Compilation CDs alongside Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Shania Twain, Toby Keith and others. During that time Matt was also featured in Music Row Magazine’s Monday Morning Downloads twice. In five short months the single was played on over 100 Radio Stations in the US and in 20 plus countries overseas. Unfortunately due to poor management the label was dissolved in February of 2005.
Dylan had spent 2001 – 2005 performing for audiences nationwide with his band Tombstone. In 2006, Dylan got a call from a good friend, Kevin Mercer who informed him The Beach Wagon in Myrtle Beach was looking for a feature performer. After one meeting with management and auditions to find a band, Dylan went back to work. It didn’t take long for the news to spread about Matt Dylan and his high energy shows making him one of the best known artist’s in the area. Not only did Matt develop a heavy local following but each week he entertained hundreds of new fans that traveled to the Myrtle Beach vacation area.
After years of playing live Matt decided in January of 2009 to take some time away from the stage and get back into the studio. Matt enlisted producer Mel Eubanks known for his work with Montgomery Gentry and Kenny Chesney to help put everything together. After several conversations, Kevin Grannt was brought in to be the session leader on the project. Kevin's recent success with Jamey Johnson's "That Lonesome Song" had garnished rave reviews and Grannt is considered to be one of the top songwriters / producers / studio players in Nashville. Matt Dylan’s self titled 12-song CD features cuts like "Carolina Moonshine," "Bourbon and the Bible," "The Price," along with the Jeffrey Steele cut "Down Here" and a cover of Vern Gosdin's "I Can Tell By the Way You Dance."
Dylan's song "Carolina Moonshine" was picked up in December of 2009 by the independent film "Red Dirt Rising" for use on their soundtrack. A music video was released for the song in 2010 featuring a cameo of NASCAR Hall of Fame Legend Junior Johnson.
In July of 2010 Matt released a song in tribute to our nation’s military entitled "Overcome." A portion of the proceeds from "Overcome" is donated to charities such as the Wounded Warrior Foundation. 2010 to present has found Matt and his band Most Wanted tearing up the Southeast, headlining festivals and drawing large crowds on the club circuit. mDylan is scheduled to head back to Nashville in October of 2011 to begin work on his new CD entitled "Southern Pride."
